The Fondation Princesse Charlene de Monaco and the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation USA are pleased to join the International Swimming Hall of Fame to further its spiritual mission of making Every Child a Swimmer (ECAS) by teaching theoretically and practically water safety and swimming in youth sporting and non sporting organizations (e.g. schools, aquatic clubs etc).
This project aims to connect and support those willing to implement teaching to enhance water safety through various interventions (individuals, clubs, organizations). Several educational programs and activities will be used that have previously been created and implemented successfully by Dr. Stathis Avramidis (President of the Greek Lifesaving Sports Association and Board Member of the International Swimming Hall of Fame) and endorsed by ISHOF (i.e. “Safe Swimming for Injury Prevention”, “A Chance For Children”, "Charlie the savior", "Sea Safety and Lifesaving Sport", swimming teaching).
The teaching and facilitation will be made by school staff, teachers and swimming coaches that have access to swimming pools and are in contact with children. The project will consist of the following:
- About 10,000 children will receive teaching theoretically and/or practically on water safety and swimming.
- About 30 adults will be trained through a Train the Trainer curriculum in how to teach the program to the children.
- About 20,000 people will benefit by reading annually our news through educational articles about first aid, lifesaving and water rescues in the ISHOF newsletter and the e-magazine “Sport Lifesaver” of the Greek Lifesaving Sports Association.
