Learn to Swim & Water Safety

U.S.A. Tustin, Californie - 01.08 - 31.08.2014

On April 27th, 2014, Safer 3 Water Safety Foundation held a Water Safety Challenge at Blue Buoy Swim School in Tustin, CA.

H.S.H. Princess Charlene of Monaco attended the event and took the opportunity to give a private swim lesson to children coming from The Village of Hope (a transitional housing program for homeless families as part of the Orange County Rescue Mission).
Whilst there, H.S.H. Princess Charlene, through Her Foundation, presented a grant to the Safer 3 Water Safety Foundation.

Courtesy of this grant these children, aged five to twelve years, received free swimming lessons throughout the month of August.  The lessons included basic swimming techniques, ‘dry-side’ water safety instruction, as well as drowning prevention exercises.  The lessons were given by professional swim instructors at Blue Buoy Swim School and trained “Assisteens” from the Tustin Assistance League.  "Assisteens" are teenagers who donate their time to helping worthy causes.

Drowning remains the leading cause of injury related death among children under five-years-old in the U.S.  Tragically, in Orange Country this year alone (as at August 10, 2014), there were 44 drowning incidents with 18 resulting in death.
